Khululekani: A Blossoming 🌱
On 8 September, the Muholi Art Institute, together with WiSER at Wits University, launched Khululekani: A Blossoming, celebrating 20 years of Zanele Muholi’s enduring photographic series, Faces and Phases.
Launched in 2006, Faces and Phases serves as a living archive of Black LGBTQIA+ lives. For two decades, Muholi has photographed community members, frequently returning to the same participants and building an evolving record of presence, transformation, memory, and continuity.
The opening gathered artists, cultural workers, academics, friends, collaborators, and community members to honour two decades of Faces and Phases and the people whose lives continue to shape this living archive.
