Empowering communities through arts and education.
Scholarships.
We have awarded scholarships to over 50 students in photography, film, and media studies across South Africa.
Our scholarships support young creatives at leading institutions, including UCT, AFDA, Orms, and the Market Photo Workshop.
Artist Residency.
Our Residency provides a supportive and collaborative space for artists to create, experiment, and engage with community. Designed to nurture both emerging and established practitioners, the residency offers time, resources, and mentorship to develop new work while connecting with the institute’s vibrant network. By centering creativity, care, and dialogue, the residency fosters artistic growth and contributes to shaping inclusive cultural narratives.
International Travels.
Through international travels, students, alumni, and colleagues have joined Zanele Muholi abroad for exhibitions, conferences, and educational tours. These opportunities create global exposure, expand networks, and provide invaluable learning experiences that connect our community to the wider world of art and activism.
Commissions and Collaboration.
We actively engages in commissions and collaborations that bring together artists, communities, and institutions. These partnerships create platforms for innovative projects, amplify diverse voices, and ensure that art continues to inspire dialogue, activism, and social transformation.
Educational Tours
Our Educational Tours offer students, alumni, and community members the opportunity to engage with museums, galleries, and cultural landmarks both locally and internationally. These tours provide hands-on learning, global exposure, and deeper insight into the role of art in shaping society, while inspiring participants to envision their own creative futures.
School Sponsorships
We sponsor schools in rural Durban and the Eastern Cape, supporting the reconstruction of facilities and the introduction of arts and after-school recreation programs. These initiatives provide students with safe, creative spaces to explore their talents, develop critical thinking, and build confidence. By integrating arts and recreational activities into education, we aim to nurture curiosity, inspire self-expression, and empower young learners to imagine new possibilities for their futures.
